To capture a piece, you must first remove the piece you are about to capture. You may place the 'captured' piece anywhere you please on the display area, except on top of the "Input" and "Output" windows on the left. Next, proceed to move your capturing piece into the emtpy square. This is much the same way that you would proceed if you were playing on a real chess board.
